Store Manager in Training – Caribbean

The Business & Employment Centre, on behalf of its client, is recruiting for a Store Manager in Training – Caribbean. This bench role is designed for high-potential professionals who are ready to enter the company’s leadership pipeline and prepare for future store leadership opportunities across its Caribbean operations.

The successful candidate will combine strong management experience with hands-on learning, operational exposure, and close collaboration with experienced Store Managers and company leadership. Key Responsibilities:

Provide overall leadership and day-to-day oversight of store operations.

• Ensure best-practice standards are clearly communicated to and consistently followed by store staff.

• Communicate, implement, and support directives from the corporate office, Regional Manager, and field support teams.

• Support the planning and execution of store resets and operational improvement initiatives.

• Monitor compliance with federal, state, territorial, and local regulations affecting daily operations.

• Oversee store expenses by guiding local teams on sound business practices and implementing controls to reduce costs, improve productivity, and strengthen profitability.

• Manage local purchasing to maintain efficient inventory turns and control inventory investment.

• Liaise with procurement staff and the Regional Manager on competitive issues, merchandising opportunities, and product lines to ensure customers have access to the right products at the right price, with strong in-stock availability and easy in-store navigation.

 

Develop, communicate, and execute effective monthly operational plans aligned with regional objectives and financial targets.

• Report all tax, duty, and rate changes to the corporate office as soon as they become available.

• Contribute to the development of the store’s operating plan and capital budget.

• Communicate operational plans clearly to management and junior staff.

• Deliver against the performance targets established in approved plans.

• Report any variances to plan identified in monthly financial statements.

 

Maintain clear, timely, and effective communication with store teams and the Regional/Corporate Office.

• Coordinate activities requiring cross-functional input with the relevant departments, including procurement, maintenance, advertising, and human resources.

• Support Category Managers in reviewing and refining the product mix by communicating merchandise issues and recommending promotions, markdowns, and pricing actions to maintain inventory turns and assortment clarity.

• Work with the Accounting Department to ensure expenses are coded accurately to the appropriate financial statement line items.

• Communicate with logistics through the appropriate reporting channels to identify discrepancies, maintain inventory accuracy, and escalate ongoing issues to the regional team.

• Submit all required monthly reports within established deadlines.

 

Deliver operational and merchandising training to store teams in line with established programmes and standards.

• Train store personnel in product knowledge, adjacencies, merchandising standards, housekeeping, and signage to support sales and profit targets.

• Ensure all managers are trained to maintain a safe and sanitary environment for customers and employees.

• Promote operational and financial standards that help reduce shrink.

• Build understanding of efficient, low-cost operating models that support bottom-line profitability.

 

Support the development of managers and junior staff.

• Identify high-potential employees who can progress into management roles at all levels.

• Develop individual training plans to build the skills required for advancement.

• Monitor and report on the progress and readiness of managers and supervisors in training.

• Recommend employees for promotion based on successful completion of training requirements.

• Communicate the availability of managers for transfer to other locations as needed.

Desired Skills and Experience:

• A college degree is preferred; a minimum of a 12th-grade education is required.

• At least five years of experience managing a large retail or big-box store is preferred.

• Familiarity with U.S. product mix and merchandising practices.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

• Sound business acumen and commercial awareness.

• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.

• Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Windows-based applications.

 

Working Conditions:

• Must be able to travel for approximately three to four weeks per year.

• Must be available to work flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays.

• Must be willing to work in a hands-on, physical, and fast-paced environment.

• May be required to work in areas affected by natural disasters.

• Must be flexible and willing to work in any geographic area of operations within the Caribbean, including but not limited to St. Thomas (USVI), St. Croix (USVI), Cayman, St. Maarten, and Barbados.
