Junior Accountant
Job Description
Job Summary
The Junior Accountant supports the Finance Manager in maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, and strengthening internal controls. This role provides oversight of day-to-day accounting activities while handling more complex accounting functions such as reconciliations, VAT preparation support, financial reporting assistance, and preliminary payroll checks. The Junior Accountant plays a key role in ensuring the integrity and timeliness of financial data and contributes to continuous improvement of the finance function.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
General Accounting & Financial Record-Keeping
· Ensures all financial transactions are properly recorded and reported in the general ledger.
· Reviews journal entries and verify entries posted, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
· Prepares and reviews supporting schedules for financial statements.
· Assists in month-end and year-end closing activities.
Accounts Payable & Receivable Oversight
· Reviews and approves AP supporting documents before submission to the Finance Manager.
· Monitors aging reports and follows up on outstanding receivables.
· Ensures vendor statements and client accounts are reconciled monthly.
Banking & Reconciliations
· Prepares bank reconciliations before submitting to the Finance Manager.
· Supports monitoring of cash balances and flags discrepancies or unusual activity.
Payroll Support & Compliance
· Performs preliminary payroll checks for accuracy prior to the Finance Manager’s review.
· Prepares payroll-related reconciliations (Gross earnings and payroll clearing accounts) to verify accuracy.
· Assists in ensuring that payroll entries are posted monthly and accurately.
· Provides payroll backup support by preparing monthly payrolls in the absence of the Payroll Officer
VAT & Statutory Reporting
· Prepares VAT working papers for review by the Finance Manager.
· Ensures VAT documents and supporting schedules are properly filed and maintained.
· Supports reconciliation of statutory contributions (NIS, RRF and PAYE) for uploading to the online portals.
Financial Reporting & Analysis
· Assists in preparing monthly and quarterly management reports.
· Prepares variance explanations and supports financial analysis tasks assigned by the Finance Manager.
· Assists with cash flow monitoring and forecasting activities.
Audit & Compliance
· Prepares schedules, documentation, and audit packages for external audits.
· Ensures completeness and organisation of accounting files and source documents.
· Supports the Finance Manager in implementing and monitoring internal control improvements.
Other Responsibilities
· Maintains confidentiality of financial information at all times.
· Supervises the finance team in the absence of the Finance Manager.
· Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Skills
· Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
· At least 2–3 years of accounting experience, preferably in a multi-functional or supervisory role with a recognized accounting designation (e.g. ACCA, FCCA, CPA, CIA) or undergoing the completion of one
· Strong knowledge of accounting principles and familiarity with accounting software (Quickbooks).
· Familiarity with PayPak payroll software would be an asset.
· Strong analytical, organisational, and time-management skills.
· Ability to supervise others while maintaining independence in review functions.
· High level of integrity, accuracy, and attention to detail.
