Assistant Accountant
Job Description
The Business & Employment Centre on behalf of its client, is recruiting for an Assistant Accountant. The incumbent will be responsible for supporting the finance department, group accountant, and management team by completing routine clerical and accounting tasks, assisting in preparation of budgets, maintaining reports and providing accurate and timely financial information to management to support effective decision making.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supporting the general manager, group accountant and wider finance team
- Performing monthly bank reconciliations
- Verification of all Bank Charges on bank statements to GL
- Verification of all Deposit on bank statements to GL
- Verification of all withdrawals on bank statements to GL
- Preparing VAT return and payroll statutory returns
- Ensuring that all statutory reports are completed in time and error free, including Payroll Tax and VAT Returns.
- Prepare bank deposits
- Aid accounting staff and department with day-to-day accounting duties
- Review accounting transactions and ensure that they are recorded in accordance with the approved coding system.
- Assist in the external audits by facilitating and providing accounting records and schedules to the external auditors.
- Ensure accounting records are properly filed and securely stored.
- Ensuring that systems are in place for the accurate and timely recording of Company transactions.
- Direction, supervision and performance management of Accounting Assistants as applicable.
- Managing Accounts Receivables, Accounts Payables and Inventory
- Assisting management in the annual budget exercise
- Preparation of payrolls.
- Ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and statutory obligations.
- Submit accounts receivable report on a monthly basis and ensure outstanding balances kept within agreed levels.
- Any other duties as assigned by the Management and Group Accountant.
QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- ACCA Level II / Degree in Accounting with a minimum of five (5) years’ experience in an accounting environment, two (2) of which must be at a supervisory level.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Any combination of knowledge, skills and experience will be considered.
